Imperfectly Criminal Imperfect Series Volume 2 Mary Frame Books
Mary Frame's first book (Imperfect Chemistry) was not bad, but this one was much, much better. I enjoyed it immensely. The author did an amazing job walking the line between touching serious issues (such as sexual trauma, crime and cancer) while balancing them with humor to the point that the overall experience of reading the book is positive and lighthearted. The book had the perfect combination of things I've been longing to find in a romance novel:
1- Very well crafted characters with unique voices and moving background stories.
2- A very entertaining plot (I couldn't put it down) that made the read so much more than the cookie cutter romance novel (I'm on strike. I refuse to buy any novel where the Hero is a billionaire or a true "Bad Boy") .
3- A great dose of sexy moments and irreverent sexy humor without overdoing it (I'm tired of authors claiming that their books are "Romance genre" when they're really Erotica/Porn. Yet I also dislike the idea that the only way to avoid "Animal Planet" sex descriptions is going the complete opposite way towards unrealistic squeaky-Clean and Sweet romance or Christian Romance).
4- Good, clever writing.
Cons? 1-If I could have taken away half a star I would have due to one particular chapter where, after a very sexy scene, the mood is ruined with an out of the blue conversation about eating Earth worms and other disgusting things. I know, it was supposed to be funny, but the timing wasn't right. :)
2-College-age characters are not my favorite demographic to read about . I have little tolerance for immaturity. Yet, even if the heroine is young, immature and a little crazy, she becomes endearing from early on. The Hero was above and beyond what I expected.
I've been longing for a new to go author and I just found that in Mary Frame. I can't wait to read her next book.

Imperfectly Criminal Imperfect Series Volume 2 Mary Frame Books Reviews
I fell absolutely in love with the first book in this series, Imperfect Chemistry. That is where I came across one of the funniest and adorable characters, Freya Morgan. She was so bubbly, snarky and sarcastic getting her story was a physical need for me. Imperfectly Criminal was everything I had hoped for with a side of piping hot humor.
Freya's story was outlined a little bit in Imperfect Chemistry. A cheating boyfriend and a paid goon to beat him up after the fact. Seems legit but I had to know more. Yes, Freya's boyfriend, Cameron, did cheat on her and YES she absolutely paid a guy on campus to beat him up but there was a whole lot more to it than that. Dean Collins is a guy with a lot of responsibility on his shoulders and does what he can to make ends meet so when Freya hires him it sets off a chain reaction of other scorned women paying him for his services. From that he lands himself in the middle of a murder investigation after two guys he's "handled" turn up dead. (Insert "Law & Order" noise here). Imperfect Chemistry was one of the funniest novels I've read in a long time so I knew this one would have big shoes to fill in the humor department. It definitely delivered the humor but there was an added bonus with the romance and mystery aspects as well.
Dean and Freya are an unlikely pairing. She's a somewhat straight laced law student and Dean is a guy who schedules underground fights, sells drugs and runs a mob ring in his spare time. But only one of those is true. Dean was actually a very responsible, kind and sexy guy. He busts his butt to care for his family who is going through their own struggles all while putting himself through school. What's not to love and respect about the guy? He's not afraid to humble himself and ask for help when he needs it which is how he gets involved with Freya. Because she's pre-law he asks for her help getting him out of this murder wrap he's facing. I fell in love with Freya in the first book and seeing her in a different light in this book was just another reason to adore her. Behind all the sarcasm and one liners hides a secret she's keeping that makes her feel bad about herself. Her previous boyfriend Cameron (whom she pays to have beat up in retaliation for cheating on her) was less than perfect and didn't treat her right and has left her with emotional scars. Scars that prevent her from moving on and being able to stand any guy getting close enough to even touch her. Her story broke my heart because she was such a resilient young woman who could roll with the punches and seeing her in pain was tough. That's why Dean and Freya made such a great couple. As they stated many times throughout "They're imperfections made them perfect". Watching them work together for a common purpose while simultaneously falling love with each other was fantastic. Dean's more serious personality just meshed so well with Freya's more playful side and the results of their encounters was pure genius.
Imperfectly Criminal had a built in mystery with a sweet and amazing romance that was on par with the first book in this series. One thing I'm learning about Frame as an author is that she writes amazing heroes. Both Jensen (Imperfect Chemistry) and Dean were amazing, sensitive and strong guys. That is important to me because I get so tired of skirt chasing, overly cocky man-boys who think the world revolves around them and their penis. Likewise Frames' heroines aren't your average simpering females who feel compelled to chase after these kinds of guys that make you question how they made it into college at all! Both Lucy (Imperfect Chemistry) and Freya are independent and fierce women who can handle being alone and don't chase guys for any reason. They only involve themselves with guys because they want to. And in Freya's case with her ex, she grew from that experience and learned how to take care of herself first and foremost. These are all characters you'd actually be able to hang out with in real life without wanting to stab them or pull your own hair out on any given day. I'm in love with Frame's refreshing characters, writing style and sense of humor that leaps off the pages of her stories with laugh out loud moments I can't stop talking about. Her first two books in this series have been total winners am I'm looking forward to more from this author in the future.
I liked this one better than the first one!
First, her name, everyone wants a unique name in their story so they can stand out. Well, MF nailed it with this one. She is super sarcastic and kinda awkward in her own way. Now to the hard stuff. This book deals with sexual assault. I could identify with her feelings of confusion. It’s hard to explain really because everyone’s experience is different. I really liked how it didn’t overshadow her life, how she clearly struggled but didn’t let it consume her. And how MF was able to write it like that without it losing its potency was awesome to me. Freya acted exactly as I did. And I loved her all the more for it.
Another thing I really liked was how Freya never came out and said the word. I know that sounds weird but we don’t need to see it or hear it to know what it is and what she was referring to. And while some people may think it’s a bit of a cop out to not address it by its name, I myself was comforted by that very fact. I mean, yeah, obviously Freya is never going to forget it but it didn’t rule her life ya know? This may be coming out all wrong, it’s hard to really explain. Okay, I’m just gonna move on cause I‘ll just keep going in circles if I don’t.
I floved Dean! He was so….awesome and caring and funny! I loved how he took care of his family and didn’t make a big deal out of it. I loved how he wasn’t too proud to do any of the dirty work himself. But most of all, I loved how he responded to Freya. He was hard and soft, vulnerable and strong. It was the best of both worlds for me.
And their chemistry! Hot Damn!
raise hand I’ll take a helping of flirty banter with a side of sensual kissing scenes please? Ding! *Order up*
