I read it 10 yrs ago in hardcover and loaned it and never saw it again....I bought it for my kindle....I just had to re-read it. A very good book and for those who care to know......there is NO graphic sex in this book. Just a pure wholesome good love story about a girl from an orphanage who is on the run from cruel adoptive parents and looking for something she yearns for.....and has gold rush fever. A very strong image of a young woman who is a survivor. You won't regret purchasing this book for your kindle or other.....

Snow Angel A Novel Jamie Carie 9780805445336 Books Reviews

I actually read Ms Carie's Wind Dancer first but after reading it had to read anything else written by.
Ms Carie's Snow Angel may be her first book written but it was written with insensity of challenges for her characters especially being it is based in Alaska during the gold rush. While it may be intense there is love and inspiration shown with Christian faith and values. Her characters and her story makes you feel like you are part of the story yourself
With her debut book she has hit the literary world running and has won the attention of so many readers to her first book Snow Angel.
I enjoyed this book. There was history about the gold rush in Alaska that was interesting. There was a Christian element to this book but very little preaching and more about how the character listened to God and some prayers. The characters didn't pull me in like I like, but I found the story enjoyable and it moved very well. It was not predictable and had me wondering where it was going to go. There is a rape scene in this book and I thought it was handled well and not too descriptive and over all there were just some things that made this an adult read.
I wish I could give half stars. I would like to give this 3 1/2. I loved the beginning of this book. The writing was good, the descriptions were lush and the storyline grabbed me. I thought there was fantastic chemistry between the two main characters... and they both were drawn so beautifully in my mind. The author did a wonderful job of setting the scene. I could picture them and their environment.

The secondary characters were not as well developed. The two main characters also did a bit of a personality quirk in the middle of the book-acting in ways that seemed somewhat contrary to normal. That made it seem slightly rushed as if the author needed them to do/accept certain things and move on to the next part of the story.

It took the novel from a touching, sad story to one that was hard make the all the leaps with. The ending was satisfying and has good symmetry - very poetic. I enjoyed it.
I accidentally ran into this one here at and read the blurb. Based on that, the cover and the fact this was from B&H's newer fiction line, I had to bite. I'm glad I did.

Jamie took some risks with this story. At times, it reads more like a secular romance novel. To some, she may have crossed a few lines in regards to passion and one specific scene of violence. Yet, the story is so compelling you are involved before you can resist. I liked the setting of this story, which she realistically painted with her words. Her characters were well-drawn and her plot pacing kept me turning pages. I highly recommend this award winner, though it's not for everyone. If you enjoy edgy Christian fiction, this one's for you. Jamie is a fresh voice in Christian fiction whose original prose will delight readers.
Just finished Snow Angel by Jamie Carie. I loved it. She is artistic with the language. The story is gripping with tension on every page. A historical, romantic love story that will have you laughing, crying, and cheering. Realistic story line with lots of unexpected twists and turns. Life is complicated, so it is difficult to get all the pieces to fit together seamlessly, but she does so in a natural way that after you have read the section you think, of course, it had to happen that way, that is the way life works. I have added this book to my list of all-time favorite novels. I had the added pleasure of reading about the Alaskan Gold Rush. This was important to me as my Great-Uncle went to the Alaskan Gold Rush and told me interesting stories when I was a child. I met Jamie at a Book Fair when I bought her Wind Dancer. I liked that one so well I had to read another. I have become a fan. I appreciate good books. A five star in my book.
Truly, I've never read a bad--or even a mediocre--book by Jamie Carie. Purchased as a Christmas read, it had nothing to do with Christmas. However, was a very good book. The gold rush in Alaska has never been part of my historical interest, but I discovered some very interesting things about that era. Prospecting for gold in Alaska was an absolutely perilous, ultra-rigorous venture, and the author chronicles it well. The story line of a mistreated orphan who grows up in an atmosphere of "gold fever," and a godly Alaskan young man who discovers this "snow angel" half frozen on the porch of his cabin is one worthy of your time. What a great, entertaining way to learn history! Jamie Carie's research is fantastic, and she is a gifted storyteller and author.
An interesting story was spoiled for me by the inaccuracies of the setting. My family has its roots in Alaska from 1917. I lived 10 years in Juneau, where the story begins, and have visited many times since. It was obvious to me that the author had never been there. Many inaccurate details could have been corrected with a simple Google search. For example A ranch on Mt. Juneau? No way. Even a photo would show that the mountain is way too steep and rugged for the situations described in the book. And Juneau has its Taku Winds, not williwaws. An author of historical fiction needs to get the setting right.
