Stained YA Paranormal Romance Stained Series Book 1 eBook Ella James

A love story among angels. I know, that's quite the usual trope lately, but surprisingly, STAINED has got a lot of promise. The characters are quite enjoyable, especially the gorgeous Nephilim Cayne. True, he’s amnesiac, but his determination to get back his memories and bring down the Angel of Darkness Samyaza was an admirable trait. No wonder the Stained One, Julia was drawn to him. And yes, I was kinda drawn to him too.

I liked that action started right from the start and didn’t disappoint as the story progressed. After only a few lines, I jumped into this book and the plot got intriguing and quite interesting. Although I thought Julia was a weakling, at the latter part of the story, I found myself liking her. She was kind of “clingy” character, but I guess, given her young age, I thought it was okay. At least she was acting her age. Cayne, on the other hand, albeit, needed a crash-course on driving, but also fun to be with once you get to know him.

Stained isn't fast paced, but it was really enjoyable until the end… oh wait! There’s no END yet! The book ended rather abruptly, as to be expected, and it's great. Cayne’s life was at stake and I have this need to know what happens next.

Stained YA Paranormal Romance Stained Series Book 1 eBook Ella James Reviews

Ella James has done it again! She completely amazes me with her unique ability to suck readers in and enthrall them completely. Stained has been out for awhile now and I have no idea why I haven’t picked it up until now. This book is so unique. I haven’t read a storyline quite like this one and that’s where Ella’s awesomeness comes in at. Every story she gives us is different from anything out at the time. She is seriously one of my favorite authors.
The storyline is filled with drama and suspense. It’s woven throughout the entire novel, from front to back. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the entire book! I swear, Ella knows how to give a girl a heart attack, that’s for sure! With Julia becoming homeless due to a mysterious creature-thing burning her home to the ground and killing the only people who have ever really loved her she’s left depending on Cayne, a creature himself, for help. Cayne has secrets of his own and even some he doesn’t realize he has. He’s mysterious and that only adds to my curiosity of him. Both characters are likable and I love how Julia seems to have inner strength she didn’t even know she had. Even in times she wanted to give up or run, she didn’t. She held her ground.
The best thing about the characters was the wordplay between Julia and Cayne. The sarcasm was flowing freely between both of them and the conversations were very creative on Ella’s part. Julia and Cayne are stubborn individuals with snarky personalities and because of this they butted heads often. Even so, they are pretty perfect for one another.
The pace for the overall book was on point. I liked how their relationship built up over time. At first they couldn’t stand one another for various reasons. (Mostly because she wouldn’t stop asking questions and Cayne wouldn’t answer said questions) <<—this is where the extremely brilliant banter came in at. lol But as the book progressed, so did their mutual respect and like for one another. As a reader, this completely makes or breaks a book. It made this book for Ella!
Overall, I loved this book. It has mystery, drama, suspense, and a little bit of romance mixed in. It kept me on edge. I laughed, I teared up, and at times I wanted to slap someone. Ella keeps exceeding my expectations for her over and over again and I am amazed every time an Ella James book ends up on my e-reader because I know I’m in for one exciting ride!
Book Review- Stained by Ella James

Julia’s parents die when her house burns and is squeezed to rubble by strange orange talons that belong to a black winged, dark-skinned man. She runs and hides out in an old pecan factory. She refuses to go back into the foster care system. She hopes after the fire that they think she is dead. She doesn’t know what she will do next, but right now she seems safe, until a strange man falls through the roof of the factory.
He is hurt and she is drawn to heal him. She uses her powers which she has kept secret to help him. As he comes to and gets up the strange creature that destroyed her house comes flying through the hole in the ceiling. The strange man gets in between the creature and Julia. It seems that they have a common enemy.
Cayne has been searching out Samyaza to kill him. He has taken something from Cayne. Unfortunately his memory is missing. Now he is saddled with this strange girl. He decides to use her as bait to lure Samyaza out. They travel across the country following him. They follow the death and destruction that Samyaza leaves. Julia has a mysterious birthmark that the ones left dead share. Something strange is going on and Julia seems to be in the middle of it without knowing what it is. Cayne seems to be protecting her as their relationship evolves.
This book had an interesting storyline. Julia was obviously special in some way by her healing abilities. Unfortunately she had no idea how she did it or who she really was. Cayne just kind of dropped into her life, literally. I liked how they teamed up to go after Samyaza.
However Cayne kept too many secrets and it made the book confusing in spots. There were a lot of unanswered questions throughout. Julia’s character also came across as very young or just immature. Most foster children seem to come across as tough or with a chip on their shoulder. So her naivety was a bit surprising. There was also a little frustration for me as some of the other characters in the book didn’t seem to fit because of the secrets kept. There is obviously more going on but never revealed. I give this book a 3 out of 5.
